Today, we got up early to go to the Embassy. You can't take any cell phones, cameras, or toys that make noise to the Embassy, so we weren't able to take photos there. We took this picture before we went. Father and Son dressed to go to the Embassy!
The embassy has a x-ray machine that doesn't work. So you have to hand over your bag to be searched. We had some diapers, an extra outfit, and all of our important paperwork with us. Al brought the baby's keys and a frog toy that he seems to like the best to keep him occupied while we waited. Our agency made things so easy for us there. We sat in a row of chairs and waited while Dawn from the agency went to the window and got our paperwork entered. Then they called all of us to "Door 10", which is a room like a closet. We waited in a line until it was our turn. The man in the room asked us to take a seat and asked us like 5 questions today. Then, he looked at our passports and stamped our application approved. We came out of the little closet and went back to sit in our chairs again. Dawn had been guarding them while we were in the line and the closet. Then we waited again. Will was having a hard time and our friend Bridget was trying all that she knew to calm him down. Our little guy decided that this was a good time for a nap and he took a cat nap, while we waited for them to call our name. We were the third family to get our name called. They really butchered it. But the woman at the window apologized and said that she should have realized that it was German, by the spelling. We raised our hand and swore that we would answer all questions truthfully. They asked about my profession, since I was the primary petitioner. They asked when we met the baby and if we knew that we would have to complete the readoption process in the US since we did not visit him. They asked about our agency and how we would characterize their work with us. It was also fast!
Jaime's mom was the last one to go in our group. She had a surprise at the window. Apparently, Jaime stuck out his tongue in his visa picture. (He does that when he smiles...all the time!) She had to go out and get a new picture taken right then and there. It only took her 10 minutes and she was so cool about the whole situation! I am so glad that it wasn't us! That would have pushed me over the edge.
The whole process reminded us of being at the DMV. It was very pretty painless. The room was full of children heading home to the US. I am glad that it is over, because that means that we are one more step closer to coming home.
The Embassy wore me out, so after we had breakfast. Fresh pineapple, refried black beans, and a yummy chicken wrapped in a tortilla were some of today's highlights that I enjoyed. The baby and I took a nap.
After nap, I gave him his first bath. He liked it very much!
Al and I went to coffee hour and met some new people that came in today. We are excited to make more friends here.
